Earlier this evening, millions of viewers tuned in to watch 7th generation tight rope walker, Nik Wallenda, also a 7 time guiness book world record holder, as he crossed the Grand Canyon.
While the tight rope walking feat was great and deserves a congratulations, it certainly was not mesmerizing. Cartermatt.com describes the event as merely a "22 minute endorsement of Christianity," as Nik would say praises with nearly each step at times. Aside from this, there was nothing memorable, inspiring, funny, or scary about the event. The "star", Nik Wallenda, seems to have about as much personality as one of the Grand Canyon mules trekking up and down the canyon, daily, with a fat tourist on his back. This, by the way, is an impressive feat for the mule.
During the interviews, not a single witty or insightful comment was made. You would think that someone--a commentator, a family member--might have thought ahead and had something clever planned. For instance, Nik could've said, "My kids have some very tall footsteps to fill." Or, "My kids don't plan do this kind of stuff, and it works out at home. They never critize me, because you can't criticize till you've walked a mile in my shoes."
Last year, Nik crossed the Niagra falls. This year the Grand Canyon. And when asked about his next stunt, he mentioned skyscrapers in New York City. Nik's stated goal is to become a recognized celebrity for his feats. Given his sheer lack of personality, his only option is to continue to do ever more risky stunts, putting "on the line" his life and the welfare of his family.
Let's hope for their sake, his kids have a better sense of balance in life, and do not take after their father.
